There are times when a rumour or a fight is ‘created’ for movie promotion and Lara Dutta is no exception. But she says that most of those bits ofgossip were generated without her permission.

“When you resort to these cheap tactics to sell your movie then obviously you don’t have enough faith in your product. There have been times when I have come across these rumours of an imaginary fight between me and another actor. I don’t get up and blame the journos because I know where they are coming from,” says Lara with a smirk.

She also has another point to make — if nobody comes to see your movie, it doesn’t matter even if it’s a path-breaking role. It took a few years for Lara to learn to swallow this bitter pill. Now, she says that she has learnt her lesson.

“It might happen that you may have a fantastic role in a low-budget movie. But at the end of the day if nobody comes in to watch your movie then it’s a complete waste of your time and energy. That is why sometimes the banner becomes more important than the script. I have heard people say that script is of prime importance but it goes to waste if you don’t have the framework to mount it,” she says.

Lara admits that it’s been a conscious decision to be a part of movies with an ensemble cast because it guarantees visibility because of a big banner.

“Nowadays, not many movies around are of the typical ‘boy-meets-girl’ types. And the faster you learn this, the better. Most of the big budget movies these days have an ensemble cast and I have consciously been a part of these movies. I think that it is a better decision than signing on a low-budget movie where the focus is entirely on you,” she says.

Lara will be off backpacking to another continent the moment her forthcoming film is a week old. “I have had back-to-back releases. Even a few months ago I was shooting for four films continuously. All the films belonged to completely different genres. Not that I wanted to be so busy but somehow it happened. Now it’s time for me to take off on a holiday. It’s happening soon I promise,” she ends.
