It’s all in Sharman Joshi's family

Sharman Joshi talks about his illustrious family of performing artists and why it doesn’t put him under any pressure to perform.

It’s all in Sharman Joshi's family

Sharman Joshi is a strange case. For there are hardly any actors in the industry who have so many stalwarts and performing artists in their family.

“My dad (Arvind Joshi) is regarded as one of the stalwarts of Gujarati theatre. All my cousins too are into performing arts and doing very well. My wife (Prerna) is the daughter of the legendary villain Prem Chopra and my sister is actor Mansi Joshi Roy who is married to Rohit Roy, who is a name in the TV industy,” says Sharman.

So, doesn’t he feel the pressure when so many family members are ready to dissect his performance when a film is releasing? “Well, everybody in my family tells me what they feel about my performance. But I don’t allow their opinions to put pressure on me. But at the same time, I am always eager to find out what they feel about my performance in a particular movie,” he says.

Sharman, who will be seen in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film which also stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, says that he has not shown his earlier films to anybody senior in his family. But this time, he is hoping to have a special “family screening”. “Besides, this one will be the first film that my daughter (Khyana, 4 years old) will watch,” he says.

The actor has just been blessed with twins, both boys, this July. “I have named them Rehan and Varryan. I also want this to be the first film they watch of their papa,” he admits.

Working with Aamir, he predictably says, was a roller-coaster ride and not difficult as reported.

“He is a thinking and a method actor. Working with him means that you can sharpen your own acting skills. The reports that he (Aamir) makes life difficult for his co-actors are all rubbish.”
