Goa-based fashion designer Wendell Rodricks was one of the first to welcome the development saying, "It's very good news. We have proven that we no longer live in a backward society. This is a victory for both the gay community and the lawyers who have fought for their rights. From now on, no one will be persecuted for their preferences."

Meanwhile actor Celina Jaitley, who is almost a brand ambassador for the entire LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender) community, was also quick to applaud the High Court. "With great pride and tears I would like to congratulate the High Court. As homosexuality is now legal in India, our long battle is won. Gays can walk with their heads held high," she said.
