If Kareena can do it, why not me: Tanushree Dutta

Forget the earlier controversies, Tanushree Dutta is again ready for a fresh leap into filmdom with two of her films lined up for release. “I was acting in the south and waiting for a good opportunity here in Mumbai and when Jag Mohan Mundhra came up with an offer to act in Apartment, I jumped on it because it seemed like a very good offer to me,” she says.

Tanushree agrees that her career has been like a see-saw ever since she won the most sought-after beauty pageant in India. “I have been trying to act in a variety of roles. I have not done a lot of movies but I have done a few that I am proud of like, say, Chocolate (the Hindi remake of Usual suspects co-starring Anil kapoor, Emraan Hashmi, Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, Sunil Shetty as well as Emma Bunton in a guest role)” she says.

But what prompted her to explore her opportunities down south than stick around and struggle it out in Mumbai? “Well, the deal is when we go down south, we get offers opposite the south superstars. So, we get the biggest of the big budget movies there and some of them much, much bigger than an average Bollywood production. So, it makes career and business sense to go and work in the south along with Bollywood. I have done the same thing,” she adds.

Tanushree admits that the lady with the bareback on the posters of Apartment is her. “I don’t know what’s wrong with that. Kareena bared her back (in Kurbaan) and it was okay. Baring your back is now aam baat in Bollywood. I don’t agree with the fact that the poster is inviting, I think the poster is nice and evokes a kind of an interest. I don’t see why red flags are being raised all over about the poster. The Kareena poster was all over the media whatever the controversies be. If she can do it, why not me?” she asks.
