I wanted to be an actor, says music director Anandji

Renowned Hindi film music director Anandji has said that although he became a music director, initially he wished to be an actor.

"I did not enjoy studying and loved to act. I wanted to be an actor but I did not have an ideal height," Anandji, who was on a visit to Bhopal along with his wife Shanta Ben and grandson Devansh Shah, said here last evening.

He said that music direction was something which came accidentally to him.

Songs in the modern era have somewhere lost their melody because of the use of machine music, Anandji said and added that they also do not last long.

Taking a dig at today's music industry, he said that people crave for instant fame and money rather than working hard. They only see glamour associated with Bollywood, Anandji said.

The music director said that he saw people with a lot of name and fame and still they were not happy with their lives.

One needs to be creative and innovative to sustain in Bollywood, Anandji, who is into social service these days and is not active in the field of music, opined.

"I had to watch a movie about 100-150 times to pick up the scenes and squeeze in sound clips. It was a tedious process, but I used to enjoy it when the background score would jell with the idea of the film and I did not put money as priority," he said.

Stating that the process of film-making has totally changed these days, the music director said that unlike in the past, producers these days are only dealing with the financial part of the film-making as everybody wants easy money.

"We used to reflect various cultures in our songs and match them with the film's idea," Anandji who brought orchestra culture in Bollywood said and added that it was an important factor in those times as the songs were written according to situations in the films.
