Mumbai: Sooraj Barjatya believes in the good side of humans. So much so that he doesn't watch dark films at all because they spread 'negative' vibes.

Sooraj Barjatya likes to watch the kind of films he makes -- the ones that talk about tradition and family values.

"I deliberately stay away from dark films. There is enough negativity in this world and I want to see and feel things which are positive and give me another reason to live life with a smile. So dark films are not my cup of tea. I would rather watch something that talks about tradition, the values of life and family," Sooraj said.

The man, who made two of the biggest blockbusters in Bollywood like Maine Pyaar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, is now busy with Rajshri Production's new television show Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli (YMGGK) on Zee TV. For this, they have built a big set at the Filmcity. Like his films, even this show is deeply rooted in tradition and narrates the story of the protagonist's (played by Suhasi Dhami) love for her house and the many such memories that she cherishes in her heart. Be it his shows or films, people have always complained that he is stuck in a time zone and talks about utopian Indian society.

"I make films and shows with concepts that I believe in. All the films that I made about family values have done well. I tried to do something different in Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon and it fared badly at the box office. There are certain areas I am good at and others where I am not as good. It could be because of my upbringing and thought process," he said.

Talking more about his television show, he said, "In YMGGK, we are talking about changing times and traditions. But as far as morality or the goodness of the character is concerned, it doesn't change." He accepts that he wants to stay in his his comfort zone.

"At whichever age you are in, you have to understand what kind of films you want to make. I believe there are so many stories yet to be told within the family. Importantly, our focus is on the commoners and people from small towns. That's the reason my television show is about a daughter and her attachment with her family and house," he said.

As a film-maker, though he started off with huge success, he is no longer in the A-list of directors. But he doesn't let such things affect his work. He said, "These things are not in your hand. When I made Maine Pyaar Kiya or Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, I never knew what's going to happen. Neither did I anticipate that Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon would fail. Today I am 45 and it doesn't bother me where my position is. I don't want to be seen in the party circuit. I just believe in doing my work according to my beliefs."
Sooraj always takes a long gap to make his films and is still scripting his next film.

"Everyone asks me why I take so long ib between films. For Vivah I took lesser time than usual. So I am improving. Right now, I am still in the scripting stages for my next film and haven't decided about the cast yet," he said.
