Amrita Puri who is making her debut with a film based on Jane Austen’s romantic novel Emma admits that she is not a big fan of the writer.

“I agree her books are great for movies on Indian sensibilities but I am not a huge fan of her novels. I know I will be killed for this but I think that our script turned out be way more interesting!” she says.

“I read the script back-to-back in a matter of two hours. But when I was asked to read the book as part of my homework, I took ages to finish it,” she adds.

The English literature student enjoys reading Indian authors though. “My favourite is Amitav Ghosh,” she says.

And though she is not a huge fan of Jane Austen’s Victorian romances, Amrita is a romantic. “I love DDLJ and old classics like Casablanca and Roman Holiday.”

Amrita plays the role of Harriet who is trying to find a match for herself.

In real life too, Amrita has her own list of ideal men and romance.

“Since I am in this profession, my ideal guy is someone who accepts me for who I am. He shouldn’t want to change me. And of course, a sense of humour is a must. I am a beach person and I would love it if he whisks me away to a beach,” she says.

“But once you meet the real guy and fall in love with him, you just throw your list away. That’s exactly what my character in the film goes through,” she says.

The Mumbai-bred actress had to play a small-time girl before she goes through a makeover in the movie.

The film is highly stylised and the girls would always end up talking about fashion every day of shooting. “Sonam Kapoor loves to talk about fashion.

She can talk for as long as she can and at any time of the day! Lisa Haydon and I would also join in. Every day we would end up discussing fashion,” she says of her co-stars.
