Sameera Reddy doesn’t believe in awards. The biggest recognition, she says, is when her fans praise her work on her Twitter account.
“Celebrities really put themselves out there when they come on Twitter. We are so vulnerable to the brickbats and everyone’s opinions,” says Sameera who is on cloud nine for the appreciation she recieved on the social networking site, for her de-glam role in the recently released Red Alert, in which she played a Naxalite.
Another project she is super-excited about is incidentally one in which she will be seen in a de-glam avatar too. “I’m doing Nagesh Kukunoor’s Yeh Hausla in which I play a fiery Rajasthani woman,” says Sameera who will be sharing screen space with the likes of Tanvi Azmi and Tanuja Chandra in the film. Nagesh, she says, is a taskmaster to the core.
“During the shoots in Rajasthan, he made meswitch off my cell phone and didn’t let me go home for two months. But it worked because each day I would just imbibe more of the local culture,” reasons Sameera.
Two consecutive de-glam roles forces us to wonder if the actress is looking to inch her way towards serious cinema for good. “No way!” says Sameera. “I am very happy with my Sexy Sam image, thank you! Both images can co-exist. I want to keep my latka-jhatkas,” she says.
The curvy actress is presently busy with rehearsals for a performance down South. She confirms that dancing to the tunes of an alien language is not easy. “I’ve acted in several Telugu, Tamil and Bengali films and each time I feel like I’m back in school. A tutor is always present on the sets to teach me the nuances of the language,” laughs Sameera.
Coming back to films, Sameera wants to clarify that the title of her forthcoming film with director Priyadarshan is not Bullet Train as is being reported in the media. “The movie is presently untitled,” she concludes.
