I'm ambitious, but not competitive: Parineeti Chopra

Actress Parineeti Chopra admits that playing one of the four leading ladies in Ladies VS Ricky Bahl, was hardly the conventional debut a newcomer would hope for. “I was one-fifth  of the pie, with three other actresses, so yes that wasn’t the dream debut, but I don’t regret entering the industry with that role,” says the actress, whose role saw her win awards apart from accolades.

“The films have come like a gift to me,” she smiles, revealing that acting was never on her wish-list. But she is quick to point out that now that she has taken the plunge, she’s not taking it easy at all. “I have been working hard for my characters and even for my second film I prepped up for it for almost two months,” she says.

Ready for her second film Ishaqzaade as a gun-wielding small-town girl, Parineeti says that this feels like her relaunch. “I really think that it’s my relaunch. Today the audience has a bigger stomach for this kind of fare, and I just feel lucky to play such an unconventional role so early on in my career,” adds the newbie.

As for nervousness, of which she shows no sign, Parineeti adds, “More than nervous, I’m curious.” Explaining further she adds, “I’m still quite the outsider, and it’s all very new for me, so I’m excited about how my role will be received this time around. The first time was like a breeze, but this time, I really am plain curious. Had I grown up wanting to be an actor may be I would feel the pressure of success, but I am just taking it each day as
it comes.”

Talk of her being in competition in the same profession as her famous older cousin, actress Priyanka Chopra, and Parineeti reveals that Priyanka is her support, not competition. “I can never compete with didi. She’s the best sister in the world and I can’t thank her enough for just being there for me,” she says brushing off all talks of there ever being trouble between the two. “Forget her, I am not even competitive with my peers. I’m ambitious, but seriously not competitive. I am quite realistic and practical in my approach that ways,” adds the actress.

Interestingly, the actress has not yet been linked to her co-stars including Arjun Kapoor. Point it out and Parineeti laughs. “So that’s good isn’t it?” she quips. “Arre yaar, I have been dreading the day when the spinning of yarns would start for me. I really could do without them,” smiles Parineeti.
