Urvashi Sharma doesn’t mind the fact that in her forthcoming film she will be essaying a totally non-glamorous role (of Akshay Kumar’s sister about to get married off) —something that the audience doesn’t necessarily associate her with. After all, she has been a successful glamour model till date.
“For me, it doesn’t matter whether I am playing a glamorous role or not. It does matter that I am doing a film with Akshay Kumar and that too in a film by Priyadarshan. He came and told me, ‘Listen, the role I am giving you is one of the most important roles in the film and I am confident that you will be able to carry it off with ease’.
I think that it is one of the greatest compliments that I ever got from a director. The very confidence of the director in me as an actor made me feel special and at that point of time it didn’t matter whether the role would de-glamourising me or not. I want my audience to accept me in this avatar the same way they have accepted me in my glamourous avatar,” she says.
So, is it true that Priyadarshan offered her the same role that was once played by his wife? “Yes, I am playing the role that was once played by his wife (The film is a remake of the 1988 Malayalam film Vellanakalude Nadu, directed by Priyadarshan himself with Mohanlal and Shobana as the lead pair). He came and told me that,” she adds.
The film also marks the debut of south star Trisha who has managed to steal quite a bit of the limelight along with Akshay during the film’s promotions.
However, Urvashi will be concentrating on roles that are sure to pay her rich dividends like Chai Garam with Govinda. “I am doing a few good roles like Chai Garam. I will be surely seen in some great shots there and something that my fans would love to see,” she smiles.
But is it true that she has put a ban on swimwear and bikinis in her films? Urvashi refutes the theory vehemently. “I cannot be uncomfortable in a bikini at all. I have previously endorsed a sportswear brand and I had to wear swimwear there. I think I have a body which can confidently carry off a bikini,” Urvashi says.
So, what has been the reaction and feedback to her earlier bikini shots? “People generally call a girl in a bikini hot. A lot of people told me that I look cute in a bikini,” she signs off with a laugh.
