She comes with an enviable family background but Anjori Alagh would like to carve her own niche. Daughter of actor Maya Alagh and entrepreneur Sunil Alagh, Anjori is all set to make her film debut with Vikram Bhatt’s ‘Life Mein Kabhie Kabhie’ (‘LMKK’).

“The story revolves around five friends who are seeking happiness. They all have their individual definitions of it—success, power, fame. My character feels that money is most essential for happiness,” she says about her role. “But this is completely in contrast to what I believe as a person. Money can add to your happiness. But it is not the be all of it,” cautions Anjori. The aspirant feels that ‘LMKK’ is the best debut a newcomer could ask for. She recalls, “I had left my pictures with Vikram. A couple of months later, he offered this role. I grabbed it. He’s a fabulous director. He was also very patient with me, which made things easier.”

Did Anjori take to acting because her mother is an actor? “Initially, I wanted to prove otherwise. So I decided to get into business management while in college. But when I went to Stanford University I took up theatre to break the monotony. And I fell in love with it. So I called up dad and announced, ‘I hate to break your heart but I want to get into acting’.” She adds, “Of course he was happy with my decision, but mom was ecstatic to say the least.”

So does her mother advise her on her chosen profession? “All the time! I am forever running to her with queries like ‘How does one laugh while dubbing?’ and other such things. She’s my biggest critic. But I gain confidence from her.”

How cool is she about exposure? “Well, I draw the line. If I had a body like Aishwarya Rai’s in ‘Dhoom 2’, I would go ahead. I have serious issues about aesthetic filming of kissing and lovemaking scenes. But I liked the lovemaking scene in Karan Johar’s ‘Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna’. I don’t want to do something that will make my parents squirm in embarrassment,” answers Anjori.

And who is she hoping to work with? “I love Nagesh Kukunoor’s films. They are inspiring. As for the actors, I am simply dying to work with Aamir Khan. I love Shahrukh Khan too. I hope to fulfill my heart’s desire soon,” she ends.
