I don't rely on friendships for work, says Kangna Ranaut

Actress Kangna Ranaut probably has one of the highest hit ratios in Bollywood among the ladies today. Yet time and again she finds herself surrounded by rumours whether they’re about her having a high-handed attitude on sets or apparent fall-outs with co-stars.

Ranaut however says that she is not bothered by any such loose talk. “I don’t worry about people trying to pull me down all the time. I’d like to believe that it’s only because there must be something that I’m doing right. Success here earns enemies,” says the actress who’s already had two consecutive hits this year.

As for her detractors trying to run her down, she adds, “I know where this malicious gossip comes from. But I also know that it’s not uncommon in the industry for an outsider to be treated like this.

There’s so much insecurity in the industry... I know how hard it is for some to accept that an outsider with absolutely no filmi connections is catching up with them. But it’s a compliment if my peers percieve me as a threat.”

Incidentally, despite her bank of films Ranaut confesses that ‘she still feels like an outsider sometimes.’ “No one may want to admit to it but the fact is that for those with film connections - whether born into it or having star boyfriends - it’s almost like they have a right to do films, but outsiders like us have to earn it and fight for it every way. So I let my work do the fighting... The rest can sit tight and do all the talking... they can snigger at me all they like,” she smiles.

And while the actress continues her quest to join the top league, she is now also dodging rumours about her growing friendship with actor Salman Khan that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In fact, there’s buzz about his friendship with her driving a wedge in his previous friendships. “Salman has been extremely supportive as a friend. I don’t understand why my friendship with him would make anyone insecure,” she quips.

Point out that all his friends especially girls have always stood to benefit in terms of work and she shoots back, ‘We are friends, but I’m not a Salman girl! I’m not the kinds to rely on friendships for work. I have made it so far without a Godfather, so why would I change now?” signs off Ranaut.
