ShareMumbai: She was MTV's 'It' girl and when Maria Goretti decided to give it all up to set up house with actor Arshad Warsi, it raised many eyebrows with people accusing her of giving up a career to become a star wife.
But Goretti who is making a comeback with the show Do It Sweet which is airing on NDTV Good Times, says that she leads a very normal life as a mother and wife and prefers to keep away from the spotlight.
"I don't consider myself a star wife. Me and my husband are like any other couple and I lead a very normal life," Goretti said.
The former VJ will be back on TV after a gap of six years with the show, which sees her cooking up delectable desserts, along with chef Vicky Ratnani.
"I started cooking and experimenting with food some years ago, to sort of please my kids. And when the show was offered to me I immediately said yes because I love desserts and the show offers it's viewers guilt free treats, low on calorie, but equally yummy and it's great fun," said the host.
Goretti says that her children, Zeke Zidaan, 5 and Renee, 2 are sure to be bewildered when they see her on TV.
"They have never seen me on TV, though they know that their dad is an actor. So it might be weird for them. It will be like, 'Mom you are on TV'," said Goretti who had made an appearance with her son in the film Salaam Namaste and also acted in Raghu Romeo where she played a soap star.
But as of now Goretti has no plans for the big screen.
"I think one actor in the family is enough," said Goretti adding that she has no qualms being known as the wife of Arshad Warsi.
"I am his wife and I will be known as his wife. We were dating when he got his break and I was excited that I would be known as Arshad's girlfriend and I still feel the same about our relationship," said Goretti.
The couple who had met each other at a college festival in 1991 married on Valentine's Day in 1999. After a initial slump in his career Warsi finally tasted success playing 'Circuit', the lovable goon in the superhit Munnabhai franchise.
And along with success came the media glare and earlier this year reports suggested that the couple's relationship was on the rocks because of Warsi's roving eye.
But Goretti says that gossip does not affect their relationship because she knows that media often creates news, where there is none.
"I don't care much about what the media says, because I know that often news is created to fill up space, but I have never felt the need to defend myself or offer an explanation," said Goretti.
