I do experiment with my music, says Mariah Carey

Pop star Mariah Carey knows how to be a consistent newsmaker; the 40-year-old singer has never failed to charm her fans.

Apparently, the singer, who is believed to be pregnant with twins, did not celebrate Christmas with husband Nick Cannon. In fact, the duo, who got married some two years back, was reported to be at ends apart this Christmas.

When poked on whether work would take a backseat after she is a mother to two, the singer kept mum and refused to make a comment.

Undoubtedly, Carey has a lot to look forward to this New Year — in both the personal and professional domain.

“In the New Year I would probably be promoting and singing different songs on different television shows, I’m not sure which ones though,” she says evasively.

Her latest album — Merry Christmas to You II — is what she calls “classic but new, modern, and soulful”. “I wrote my first Merry Christmas album when I started my career,” she reveals.

The diva, who made her singing debut at the age of 20, supposedly finds it a task to keep track of the “many” new emerging pop-stars.

Carey  is known for her spectacular style — famous for her low cut dresses and flowing gowns — and has experimented a lot with her hairstyles.

“Wearing my hair differently or changing my style of dress is playing dress-up. I don’t take it too seriously,” she states. “I don’t reinvent myself,” she adds.

“I do experiment with my music,” asserts Carey, who insists that she likes “all type of music”. Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Minnie Riperton and Stevie Wonder have been her musical influences. Recently, she also performed together with her mother, opera singer Patricia, on an American TV show.
