I didn’t attempt suicide: Rambha

Rambha opens up about the controversies in her life, an alleged suicide attempt and tells DNA if a swayamvar is on the cards for her.

I didn’t attempt suicide: Rambha

Rambha doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned for her comeback movie Quick Gun Murugun that released yesterday. Even when she appears for media interactions, she wants to totally look the character ‘Mango Dolly’ that she essays in the movie. So it was no surprise that just before this interview she was obsessed on a wig that was similar to the Rs15 lakh wig that she sports in the movie.

“This is nowhere even close to the Rs15 lakh wig that we had imported from Los Angeles. Shasank Ghosh (the director) had also got a stylist from LA for me. It was the only wig that looked natural on me. So, I hope this wig doesn’t look dumb on me,” says Rambha.

However, the moment we pop a question about her alleged suicide attempt, she turns serious. So, what exactly happened on August 26, 2008 — the day she was wheeled into the ICU of a private hospital in Chennai and the press went on record saying it was a suicide attempt?

She says, “There was Lakshmi puja in my home and I had to fast for the whole day as is the tradition with my family. The next day I was supposed to shoot. In the morning I had a quick breakfast at some hotel and that did me in. I felt uneasy and started throwing up. After a point I was taken to a nearby hospital. The authorities told my brother that I had to be admitted as my pulse rate was falling. And the next day it was reported that I had attempted suicide. I didn’t attempt suicide at all. They even linked me with three actors. I had to call all of them and say sorry the next day.”

She admits that she ‘ran away from Mumbai’ to the South to escape the ‘prostitute type’ roles that kept on coming to her.

“That became a trend perhaps and most of the roles that were offered to me were of a prostitute or something like that. I never wanted to do those roles. So I went to the South,” she says.

Rambha was also in the news a few days ago for trying to follow in the footsteps of Rakhi Sawant to find a life partner through a swayamvar. So is it on the cards?

She says, “My brother had once jokingly mentioned that he wanted me to get married through a swayamvar. But I will never have a swayamvar. Even if a man is best suited for me and completes all the tasks given by me, it doesn’t mean that I will fall in love with him. This concept doesn’t work for me.”

Seeing her still struggling with her hair, we ask if her role in Quick Gun Murugun is that of a dumb blonde.

“She is not dumb at all. She behaves dumb just to save Murugan’s life. In fact, she is more intelligent than Murugan and that is why he falls in love with her,” she ends.
