After 'My Name is Khan' and 'New York', which were made in the backdrop of 9/11 attacks, actor-director Puneet Issar is keen on highlighting a new facet of the issue in his upcoming venture 'I Am Singh', which will be focusing on Sikhs, who became victims of racist violence in the aftermath.

Filmmaker Karan Johar's 'My Name is Khan', was about a Hindu woman who falls in love and marries a Muslim and how things changed after 9/11. While Aditya Chopra's 'New York' tells the story of three students studying at NY University whose lives turn following the attacks.

"The message was that all Muslims are not terrorists. In these two films it was shown that Muslims bore the brunt of the attacks. While, 'I Am Singh' underlines the fact that every guy who wears a turban is not an Arab or Afghan. It is about Sikhs and not Muslims," Puneet told PTI in an interview.

The actor made his directorial debut with Salman Khan starrer 'Garv' (2004) and is now charged up for his second film.

"The movie is about Sikhs, who, despite living in the US for generations, were mistaken for Arabs and Afghans and became victims of racist violence in the aftermath of 9/11."

"Primarily, they were mistaken as Arabs and Afghans as they also had beard and they wore a turban. They were misunderstood. We are not showing or talking the racist side of anyone," he said.

The film starring Gulzar Chahal, Mika Singh, Rizwan Haider, Tulip Singh and Brooke Johnston, releases on December 2.
