I am not moody: Mahi Gill

Actress Mahi Gill says she can go from being serious to a fun girl, depending on her onscreen avatar

I am not moody: Mahi Gill

Her debut as the modern day Paro, in Anurag Kashyap’s critically acclaimed film Dev D, created a buzz in Bollywood. Last seen in a cameo in the movie Dabbang, actress Mahi Gill has a host of films lined up for this year.

She will soon be seen in films like Utt Patang with Vinay Pathak, Paan Singh Tomar with Irrfaan Khan, Sahib, Biwi or Gangster with Jimmy Shergill. In Utt Patang, Mahi dons a glamorous avatar, playing the character of a con woman.

The actress, who is choosy about which films to work in, says she likes to go slow and steady, instead of randomly signing up for films. “The content is very important to me and in this case it is the script which has become the hero,” she points out.

Mahi, who has been applauded for her acting talent, says that the trends have changed in the movie business. “Now, it isn’t about big or small films anymore. Instead, they are categorized either into good or bad,” she explains, adding that though promos play an important part in creating a buzz, there are cases where even after high publicity, films have failed.

The actress, who prefer serious cinema, says she is considering commercial projects now, as they have been a part of her creative growth process. “I wouldn’t mind acting in a comedy, if it’s intelligent humour. I can’t do slapstick!” she exclaims. Mahi is also open to a sequel of Dabbang, if offered, along with performing item numbers.

Asked if she is an introvert, considering that she kept to her room, during the shoot of her upcoming movie Paan Singh Tomar, Mahi says, “I am not moody. It all depends on the situation and people around. If I am comfortable in my surroundings, then I am a totally different person.”

The actress explains that her seriousness can stem from the role she plays onscreen. Mahi narrates how people thought she had an attitude problem, during the shoot, until the last day, when there was an in-house party. “I was dancing like crazy and people were shocked. They saw the other side of me,” she laughs.
