There was some buzz about actor Hrithik Roshan having signed on for film-maker Faruk Kabir’s (of Allah Ke Bandey fame) Welcome To The Jungle that was being produced by Roshan's father-in-law Sanjay Khan. To be directed by Kabir, the film was also set to star actor Zayed Khan.
Hrithik had apparently signed the film because of the obvious family connections, since it was an in-family project. But whispers doing the rounds of the trade now indicate that the film has been shelved.
“Yes, the film has been shelved,” confirms an insider, saying, “The box office fate of Kites and Guzzarish had to some extent made an impact on the feasibility of the project. Also, the market dynamics have undergone tremendous change since the film was first discussed. So the project has now been put on hold indefinitely.”
Another source however says that the shelving has not so much to do with the fate of Kites and Guzaarish, as it has to do with the general pace in the market today. “Hrithik was to play the role of a wildlife explorer. But at present, he is not only busy with Agneepath and pre-production work of Krissh 2, but also with his dance reality show on the small screen. He will soon begin the promotion work for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara too,” said the source. “Apart from Hrithik, even Faruk is at present busy with other projects. Since, this one took so long to materialise, both, the actors and the director have moved on to other projects and the dates allocated to this one have been given to other films,” the source added.
According to sources, Hrithik had been signed on for this action adventure almost two years back, in 2009, and he was to start shooting for it soon after wrapping up Guzaarish. The film apparently required Hrithik to sport shorts through out the film and he was working towards bulking up his leg muscles for it.
However, friends close to the star and the director reveal that both were keen to work together on this one. “They had several meetings in the past and the two got along well,” the source concludes.
