Health is of utmost importance, says Asin

The actress, talked about raising awareness on cervical cancer as a part of DNA’s initiative, the I Can Women’s Half Marathon.

Health is of utmost importance, says Asin

“All the three causes (education, health and safety for women)  are inter-linked and are very close to my heart” says actor Asin, as she talks about the DNA I Can Women’s Half Marathon. Lending support to this initiative, she says that awareness about good health for women is of utmost importance. “I come from a family where we talk about these issues at home. My mother is a doctor,  so all my life I have grown up, knowing the importance of good health. Issues like cervical cancer do not get written about. Very few people know what it really is and this marathon is a fantastic initiative on DNA’s part to spread awareness about an issue like this”, says Asin.

Ever since she’s shifted her base from her hometown in Kerala to Mumbai, the actor can’t stress enough on the second cause — women’s safety in public places. “I see so many incidents of women being mistreated and abused in the papers so often, that this is one of the biggest issues we need to tackle. Women should be protected and their safety is of prime importance. We should ensure that is taken care of,” says Asin. All this, she says, stems from the fact that proper education facilities are denied to women. “All three causes that DNA has decided to tackle are wonderful,” she adds.

Educating the girl child is one of the causes, she has personally been actively involved with, says Asin. “This cause is probably one of the biggest women centric issues in our country. I support the education of six children each year, five of which are girls. I have closely worked with these children and I know that if given the opportunity, women can educate themselves much better and know what is wrong or right for them. Education is a basic right and women should not be deprieved of that. Through this initiative, I am hoping DNA is able to spread more awareness amongst people.”
