Golfer Digvijay Singh: There’s no fair play

He might be a professional golfer but Digvijay Singh gets talking about all things apart from the game.

Golfer Digvijay Singh: There’s no fair play

He’s tall, suave and witty. That apart, he’s a professional golfer, as well. Digvijay Singh, who was in the city recently for the Louis Philippe Pro Team Golf, was his usual charming self, on and off the greens.

Also the brother of actor Chitrangda Singh, Diggi, as he’s commonly referred to in the golfing circuit, confesses to not being much of a film buff. “The last film I saw was Scent Of A Woman. Of course, we did watch Tina’s (that’s how they refer to Chitrangda) Desi Boyz and think she did a wonderful job in it,” he informs. Quiz him if Tina insists on the family watching all her movies and he says with a laugh, “No, she doesn’t. But we all make it a point to catch up on her films even without her saying it.”

While work — playing golf that is — does need him to travel extensively, Diggi’s favourite holiday destination remains Thailand.

“And this has nothing to do with the fact that Thailand has some fabulous golf courses. In fact, I never ever play golf while holidaying — that’s a strict rule I abide by,” he states. Shooting and skydiving are two interests that the golfer pursues whenever free. “I’ve dived 66 times and it’s such a thrill. I’ve made my parents skydive once too,” he adds.

Digvijay loves Thai food but isn’t much of a cook himself, till recently. “I made some barbeque chicken and my wife was very impressed with my culinary skills,” he says sheepishly. Known for being a colourful person when it comes to his attire on the golf course, Diggi confesses to his love for colours. “It’s nice to look vibrant — that works on my mood too. I’m not too particular about brands though — anything that looks good on me works just fine,” he says.

Living out of his suitcase mostly, Diggi admits to not getting enough time to watch television.

“Even if I do manage some time, golf is the last thing I’d want to see on TV. And unlike most Indians, I don’t follow cricket too. There’s hardly any fair play left in that game — all tournaments look pre-fixed to me,” he signs off.
