Gettin’ Juggy with it

“It’s always good to visit my motherland,” affirms UK-based singer Juggy D, who is in the city to perform at Rock Bottom, Juhu on Thursday. Juggy burst onto the Indian music scene in 2003 when the critically acclaimed ‘Dance With You / Nachna Tere Naal’ featuring Jay Sean topped the desi charts.

Hailing from London’s Southall district, Juggy took an interest in singing from an early age, “At parties I was always on the dance floor.”

“I come from a non-musical family. My parents pushed me into academics,” informs Juggy. He pursued a two-year diploma in computer studies before eventually taking up music full time.

He was soon asked to collaborate on the track ‘Nahin Jeenah’ for Rishi Rich’s debut album ‘Simply Rich’. “It was the beginning of my dream!” exclaims the bhangra artist.

Influenced by Michael Jackson (MJ), Juggy believes that Punjabi singer Gurudas Mann is the desi version of MJ! “MJ as an inspiration reflects in me when I’m performing. I’m an entertainer and I get the crowd going,” avers Juggy.

With the release of his self titled debut album ‘Juggy D’, the Asian vocalist proved that he is here to stay. “My music and lyrics are not hardcore traditional. They are diluted - very easy to listen to,” he explains.

Featured in mainstream Hindi movies such as ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum’, Juggy maintains that this created a platform for the performers. “We have been flooded with offers but we have to be selective,” he says. To his Indian fans Juggy D promises, “I not only hope to continue to live up to your expectations but also deliver!”
