Fit is sexy: Bipasha Basu

‘Love yourself!’ is the mantra that Bollywood beauty Bipasha Basu
lives by and hopes that today on World Health Day, more people will adopt it too. “The focus this year is on creating an awareness of antimicrobial resistance and I really appreciate the initiatives taken by the WHO for it. It is commendable that they are working towards safeguarding these medicines for future generations,” says the star. “But today’s also a good day to adopt a healthy lifestyle,” adds Basu.

“Once you love yourself, you will automatically respect your body and try and go the healthy way,” says the star, who can easily boast of having one of the fittest bods in B-Town. “But it’s not just about having a fit bod alone,” she points out, “but a fit mind too.” Basu also debunks the myth that being fit means being thin and thin means being sexy! “Sexiness has nothing to do with being thin! In fact, sexy can come in any size. But yes if you are fit, you automatically do feel sexy, so fit is sexy!”

She also reveals that it’s upsetting to see teenagers fall prey to the thin fad. “Anorexia and Bulimia were very Western concepts, but they are increasing in India at an alarming rate and it’s scary to see what lengths some young girls go to, to acquire a stick thin look,” says Basu.

The actress is currently busy shooting for her Hollywood flick Singularity in Occhra a small town in Madhya Pradesh and despite the non-availability of the gym facilities that she’s used to, she’s not missing out her work-outs at all. “We swim, do yoga, and use the trampoline. You don’t need to hit the gym to stay fit,” she clarifies.

So, is she getting Hollywood star Josh Hartnett (her co-star in the film) hooked on to her fitness regime too? “Oh he is very health conscious himself. In fact, he’s got a rather super-fit bod. And he loves playing badminton. Yes. I think that’s his secret!” she smiles.
