The city of Edinburgh will celebrate the 80th birthday of native legend Sir Sean Connery.

The city will screen Connery’s 1975 movie The Man Who Would be King at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The movie is a story of two ex-British soldiers who set up their own pocket kingdom in a fictional Afghanistan. The movie is a far cry as compared to Sir Sean Connery's role as James Bond.

It is based on a short story by author Rudyard Kipling. It co-stars Connery's friend Michael Caine, reports The Scotsman.

”It's quite simply his career-best film. Those who know his work believe it's his best film, and he absolutely loves it,” filmmaker and writer Mark Cousins said.

“This event is a fitting way to celebrate Sir Sean's 80 years, almost 20 of which he has given to support of EIFF patron. He is a great friend of the festival and we look forward to celebrating this amid the glitter of the Festival Theatre,” Hannah McGill, artistic director of the festival, said.
