Mumbai: His unconventional creations are bringing him recognitionnot just in India but abroad too. For starters, Chauhan has just come back after showing his Spring Summer collection at the Japan Fashion Week. He was a part of the New Fashion Designer Grand Prix which ran between January 13 and 17.

"I showed some 25 creations from my Spring Summer line called 'Conditions Apply' on the ramp plus a good ten ensembles from my AutumnWinter 09 ('Conditions Apply -- Part 2') line at the stall. And I must say the response was very encouraging," he notes, adding that while Part 1 had dwelt on the downside to urban life through white and black, yellow, green and orange outfits made using hand printing, tye-and-dye and batik prints, Part 2 is dominated by pashmina and silk blends.

Nitin is also eyeing the Tokyo Fashion Week. "But I'd need a grant or a scholarship to do so. After all, these are bad times and I too am affected," he says.

But he is kicked about launching his first- ever men's line this year. "I have nothing against any fashion platform. But given that the FDCI is hosting the first-ever men's fashion week this July, I might just launch my men's line there," he explains.

And lastly, how different or similar is the fashion scene in Japan as opposed to that in India? "Well, I was particularly impressed with the fashion statements that I found in the areas of Ginza and Shibuya in Tokyo. I realised that be it a car or a safety pin, everything that sells in Japan boasts of one thing -- premium quality. That's something we could all learn from," he emphasises.
