The formal engagement and marriage of tennis star Sania Mirza and former Pakistan cricket captain will happen within 24 hours of each other — on April 15 and 16, respectively, in Lahore, Pakistan.
A close friend of Sania’s father Imran Mirza says, “As of now it’s April 15, both for the engagement and marriage. However, the date can be postponed by 24 hours since April 16 is Jumma (Friday). It will all depend on the Maulavi’s recommendations.”
Sources say the nikaah will happen immediately after the engagement at Pearl Continental Hotel at Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam area in Lahore even though the Maliks are also in talks with Avari Hotel situated in the same area. Sania’s parents and relatives will be flown down in a special craft and will be put up at both the hotels.
Though the couple is informally engaged, the formal engagement hasn’t happened yet. The haste in getting them engaged and married is because Shoaib has to get back to cricket. He is serving a one-year ban that was slapped on him this March by the Pakistan Cricket Board without specifying any reason.
Imran, meanwhile, refused to interact with the media. He just communicated that Sania doesn’t want any aspect of her marriage to be discussed in public. Sources say Sania will fly down to Hyderabad after the nikaah and will also pose for the media before heading either for Mauritius or Seychelles for her honeymoon.
