Carey Mulligan joins off-broadway show

British actress Carey Mulligan will star in a new off-Broadway theatre adaptation of a 1960's Ingmar Bergman film, the show's production company announced on Thursday.

Oscar-nominated Mulligan will play the role of Karin in Through a Glass Darkly, an adaptation of the Swedish director's 1961 film of the same name set on an island where family tensions flare.

Mulligan is no stranger to the New York stage having acted in a production of The Seagull in 2008. She has swiftly become one of Hollywood's hottest properties with roles in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and the screen adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel Never Let Me Go.

Her performance as a London school girl in the low-budget, coming-of-age movie An Education earned her an Oscar nomination.

Through a Glass Darkly will begin previews on May 13 and officially run from June 6 through July 3 at the New York Theatre Workshop.
