The famous British Afro Band, Osibisa, whose music was a big hit in the seventies, today said they are to African music what Sachin Tendulkar is to Indian cricket.
The band, a mix of young and old musicians, will be performing in Kochi tomorrow after 28 years. The members said they were excited to be peforming after such a long gap.
The band had performed for two days at Goa, and after the Kochi performance, they would move on to Chennai for a show on November 22 following which they would return to UK.
The band members said when the small black band was formed in 1969, they found it difficult to establish themselves in Europe.
"Our music is a criss-cross rhythm that explores happiness. We are glad that we have made Africans and African Americans interested in music and are ambassadors of African music", the said.
On the number of songs that would be peformed for a 4,000-odd audience, Teddy said it would be a two-hour show.
JT Pac, after showcasing popular performances of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Sivamani, Udit Narayan, is presenting this show of the globally acclaimed rock band.
Formed in London in 1969 by three Ghanian and three Caribbean musicians, Osibisa played a central role in developing awareness about African music among world audiences.
The band is still popular with their concerts and albums like Woyaya, Ojah Awake and Mystic Energy.
