Bollywood is a male dominated industry

The actress talked about working and surviving in a Bollywood that she says, is warming up to female oriented roles now.

Bollywood is a male dominated industry

Actor Priyanka Chopra made her first appearance in three days during her stay in Singapore. The actor, who was slated to perform at an awards function on Saturday, was spotted talking about her upcoming film, Teri Meri Kahaani with co-actor Shahid Kapoor.

While interacting, Priyanka stated that she was more than happy that she was surviving with her head held high in an industry that is absolutely male-dominated. “There is no security and guarantee about how long you will survive in the industry. It has always been a male-dominated industry, but I am glad to have survived on my own. I have learnt from my mistakes. I fell down, picked myself up, dusted off and moved ahead. Even when I was doing Aitraaz, there were people who told me, ‘Don’t be silly’, but I did the film. And even Fashion was another film that people doubted and the results are for everyone to see. I think over the past couple of years our industry has evolved and is more accepting about women actors,” the actor says.

The awards function slated to take place in Singapore has the Khans and the Bachchans missing in attendance at the time of filing this copy; it seems to be completely dominated by the younger stars. “There should be no comparisons made with regards to surnames. The Khans are and will always be missed by everyone here,” said Priyanka, who later confessed that she is now working towards getting the Chopra clan into the picture.

“Yes, I had earlier also said that in good jest. We are actually a very big family and I have a lot of cousins, some of whom I am paving the way for. So let’s see,” she said. Since Priyanka was slated to attend the IIFA awards show, we asked her about the importance of awards in the life of an actor. “Awards aren’t the only thing that actors work for. No one decides before taking up a film that I will do it in a way that I get an award for it. Having said that, awards are  a good thing. It is nice when your efforts are appreciated for the hard work that you put in for those six months.

Also, I think when you get an award, it is competitive in a very healthy way,” she says.

Talking about her upcoming film that is a love story, the actor says she is a soppy romantic in real life. “I am absolutely die-hard, bone-crushingly crazy about love and romance. I believe in love. It makes your world go round. I also believe that there is someone made for you. Everyone has a soulmate, whether you end up living with him or no, is a different question!”
