Bhaskar Bollywood Awards: Mallika Sherawat

People call her the ‘Queen of Controversies’ and she likes to reinforce the tag every now and then. But, bombshell Mallika Sherawat doesn’t owe all the publicity she gets just to the controversies. Her item songs have perhaps done for her, what even the controversies that surround her couldn’t.

Known for her bindaas attitude and dare-to-bare image, Mallika, created quite a flutter with her recent item number, Jalebi Bai. Her fiery act has found the actor a place among the lucky five in the final voting round in the Dhamak-e-dar Item (Item number of the year) category of the country’s most democratic people’s choice awards — Bhaskar Bollywood Awards. The awards are sponsored by the new Estilo from Maruti Suzuki.

We got in touch with the scintillating actress andspoke to her on why Jalebi Bai from Double Dhamaal is so close to her heart.

The sexy siren asserts that money is an important factor, but some things are a result of passion and Jalebi Bai fulfilled her thirst for dance and music. “I did Shalu Ke Thumke (another item number) for money, but concentrated more on Jalebi Bai, as I simply loved the steps of it and it’s close to my heart,” explains Mallika.

While Sheila and Munni raked in the moolah through their toned bodies, foot-tapping music and sensuality, Bollywood’s very own sexy siren Mallika admits that she dances for passion.

“I dance for the love of it and really don’t mind comparisons with other item numbers in B-Town,” she adds.

The four-day schedule of the song was shot at Mehboob Studios, where a lavish set of a casino was created to give the song the right look and feel. The song was choreographed by ace dance master Ganesh Acharya and composed by Anand Raj Anand.

The actress, who managed to look smoldering hot and ultra glam at the same time, is honest about her decisions.

She says, “I did Maiya-Maiya (from Guru), for veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam and AR Rehman, while I did Mehbooba-Mehbooba for money again.” Mallika sure seems to be striking the perfect balance between passion and money!
