Ben Kingsley, other celebs to take part in IFFI shopping fest

Panaji: This International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Academy award winner Sir Ben Kingsley would be seen walking the busiest street of Panaji.

Panaji Shopping Festival, an event to be held on the sidelines of IFFI 2009, has listed Kingsley as one amongst various celebrities who will virtually visit the shops on city's busiest 18th June Road.

"Around 62 shops have joined hands in this festival and will be offering discount during the festival. 18th June Road, which is an artery of Panaji will have celebrities walking this street," Kirit Maganlal, chairman, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (GCCI) Retail Committee, told reporters here.

GCCI, state's apex commercial body, has designed this festival which will be held during the days when city will host international film festival.

GCCI's vice-president Mangirish Raikar, who is also on Red Carpet Committee of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), co-host for the festival, said that for the first day, celebrities like Mugdha Godse and Sonali Kulkarni will walk the streets.

"Stars like Sameera Reddy and Suniel Shetty are confirmed to participate in the event. We are yet to get the detailed final list," Raikar told reporters.

Maganlal said that ESG has promised the shopping festival organisers that at least one celebrity will visit the street daily.

Panaji Shopping Festival will offer discount from 15 to 50% on various items. "Right from restaurants to retail sellers, everyone has joined the list of shops which will offer discount," Maganlal said.
