Being a dad? The best role life could offer!: Aamir Khan

Actor Aamir Khan, who became a dad again recently is celebrating his first Father’s Day with six-month-old son Azad Rao Khan.

Though the actor himself doesn’t exactly believe in the concept of celebrating any such days, he does admit that it’s moving to see children go out and try to make the day special for dads. “I think you start to value and respect life more after you have children.

When Junaid was born, I remember working barely for 40 days for almost a year, because I just wanted to be there with him and Reena. I was quite a hands-on dad and didn’t want to miss a moment of being with him. Likewise for Ira. But this time around, my work commitments didn’t allow me the same luxury of being around Azad as much as I would like to,” says Aamir, who has been busy with his TV show since early this year. “Yes, in a way he’s been a part of the brainstorming and my meetings, as I tried to work from home most of the time on the show,” he adds.

But the doting father reveals that he’s found a way to steal some time with him every day. “Usually by the time I come home, Azad’s already sleeping. So, I just wake him up for a while - even though Kiran is not too happy about him waking up so late at odd hours — but I do play for some time with him and bond with him, talk to him lots. Working on the show has been really draining, but I think he and Kiran have helped me maintain an emotional balance. Azad has a certain calmness that is beyond his age and it works wonders for me. His smile makes everything worthwhile,” shares Aamir, adding that though he wouldn’t call himself the ‘perfect dad’, he does believe that all children are perfect. “There’s so much that we can learn from them!”

In fact, for the actor being a dad is perhaps the best role life could offer. “Nothing can compare to the feeling of coming home to a child who is waiting for you to take him in your arms. They are like mini instant de-stressors,” smiles Aamir.
