Bachchans told us in advance about Aishwarya's pregnancy: IIFA

The pregnancy of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is apparently the main reason why she and husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan skipped the film awards event in Toronto, say organisers. When the star couple backed out of a performance planned for the event, it was attributed to the animosity between Abhishek’s father, actor Amitabh Bachchan, who was the original face of the event, and the organisers.

“For the record, there was no tiff between the Bachchans and us, in any way,” says Sabbas Joseph, the chief of the organising committee of the awards and head of the event management firm.

Sources say that the family members had unofficially told the organisers that it was because of the pregnancy that Abhishek and Ash were pulling out of the event.

“They had told us about it (Ash’s pregnancy) and we were delighted to hear the news. We were all waiting for the formal announcements to be made,” add sources.

Buzz is that the Bachchans will be back in full force at the next IIFA awards. “We are hoping to have them back next year. We are planning an even bigger show next year,” says another member of the organising committee.
