MUMBAI: It has happened at last. After three days of revelry, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai tied the knot at a ceremony held at the Bachchan residence, Prateeksha, on Friday evening.
Though the groom's father, Amitabh Bachchan, had said that the event would be a private affair, the celebrity brigade turned out in full force. Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia; Kajol and Ajay Devgan; Yash Chopra; Karan Johar; Dimple Kapadia; Sanjay Dutt; Anjali and Sachin Tendulkar; and Mulayam Singh
Yadav were among the guests present. Amitabh, Anil Ambani and Amar Singh received the guests at the wedding venue.
The theme song for the evening was, but naturally, Kajra re.
A band played the song as the groom and the baraatis left for Prateeksha from Jalsa, Bachchans' other Juhu bungalow.
Friends of the groom - Uday Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh and others - danced to the song. Abhishek's sister Shweta Nanda also broke into a jig.
Though fans and the media jostled for a glimpse of the groom and his glamorous guests, the police kept all uninvited visitors at bay. They had to resort to a mild lathicharge when fans went berserk on seeing Abhishek mounting a mare as part of the wedding custom. He soon dismounted and joined the others in one of the several air-conditioned buses that took the baratis to Prateeksha.
Once there, Abhishek got off the bus and mounted the mare again and swayed to the music, much to the delight of onlookers. The ceremony took place amid tight security.
