Music composer AR Rahman, who runs the KM music conservatory in Chennai — a school that imparts classical music education to children — has joined hands with the Middlesex University.

This tie-up will apparently enable students of Rahman’s school to go on exchange programmes at the British institution.

Rahman, who provides free education to underprivileged students at his music school, will look to provide scholarship to these children too at Middlesex. Sources say the children could go free of cost to England if they qualify for scholarship.

A source says, “Rahman has been instrumental in making his institution grow in strength and this tie-up with Middlesex University will certainly take KM music conservatory to greater heights. Around 30 students from corporation schools of Chennai will be taught by Rahman at his school. He has handpicked these children seeing the wealth of talent they have and thus he wants to leave no stone unturned to see that these students get the best teaching.”

The source adds, “Having grown up in difficult circumstances after his father’s death, Rahman related to these kids in a big way.”
