Anurag Kashyap's filmi fixation

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s forthcoming film Gangs of Wasseypur 2 is apparently a sort of a tribute to the mainstream cinema.

All the characters have a film fixation so much so that they are obsessed about following an actor. From Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt to Madhuri Dixit, everyone has a fan in the film, who apes them to the ‘T’.

Lead actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a character,  inspired by none other than actor Amitabh Bachchan. The goggles that he wears and the scarf around his neck is exactly the way Bachchan has sported in some of his films. In fact, Nawazuddin is a fan of the actor even in real life.

Huma Qureshi is fixated on Madhuri Dixit in the film and even thinks she looks like her. Not only does she sport a hairstyle similar to hers, she even sings the title track from one of  Madhuri’s hit films Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Another character in the film dons the same hairstyle Salman had in Tere Naam. 

Anurag, who is looking forward to the release of the second part of Gangs... says the difficult part is over. “All the characters got established in the first part. Even the docu-feel of the first part is not there in the second one. There is a lot more fun in this with all the characters obsessed with filmi characters,” he says.

Incidentally, the film is going to be premiered in Dhanbad, where the film is based. The people of Dhanbad had initially protested and even banned the first part as it’s based on real incidents. But now after seeing it, they are more than happy to get the film released there. In fact, Anurag and his team will be going there to promote the film.
