Akon was performing at Melbourne's HiSense Arena as part of his co-headlining gig with T-Pain when rival gangs got into fisticuffs.

A clip shot by a fan and posted on YouTube shows Akon finding his way through the unruly crowd and trying to shout them down to peace into his mic.

Thereafter, he was raised onto fans' shoulders, where he addressed the audience, "It took me almost two years for Australia to let me back in the country. And I'm not going to let them f**k up my concert tonight!" reports the Daily Express.

However, reports say that Akon's interference not only failed to sober up the crowd but also annoyed them further.

Australian authorities say that nearly 18 people were given medical treatment after the fight, while nine were taken to hospital.

A man was arrested after for allegedly attacking a security guard while six others have filed complaints.
