Abhay Deol goes Green

It’s World Earth Day today and the actor gives us an insight on how best not to add to the pollution and other hazards.

Abhay Deol goes Green

Earth Day is held every April 22 around the world to raise awareness of climate change and environmental issues. People world over seem to be doing their bit to raise awareness and joining hands in this initiative on social networking sites. Actor Abhay Deol who recently featured on the cover of a green magazine expressed his concerns about the environment.

Deol had earlier said, “Every day, we subconsciously add to the rising concern of global warming. I save on air-conditioning at home. I try not to waste electricity and water. Even while driving, if the signal is long, I switch off my car engine to cut down on pollution. I try not to litter and throw stuff around. It is little things like these that can make a huge difference.”

A source close to Deol elaborated, “Abhay is very particular about environment conservation. He is well aware of the environmental hazards and the ill-effects of the rising pollution levels. He tries his best to be environment friendly. For starters, he switches off all his electrical appliances when not in use and urges everyone close to him to do the same as well. He also makes it a point to separate garbage as dry and wet before disposing it.”

But the actor has now apparently gone a step further and if reports are to be believed, he is building an eco-friendly home in Goa which will leave low carbon footprints and will be energy efficient as well. Deol, who was  appointed as the official brand ambassador in India for Al Gore’s ambitious non-profit group, The Climate  Project last year, will apparently install eco-friendly features such as solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems in his new pad.
