Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor will soon be seen rubbing shoulders with people like the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Both actors have been roped in by the 1 GOAL campaign supported by FIFA that aims to provide free education to millions of children across the world. The actors will be part of a campaign video that will see them rooting for the cause of education and urging parents to send their kids to school.

Officials from 1 GOAL say Aamir and Kareena will also be joined by actors like Irrfan Khan, Nandita Das, Rahul Bose and Jackie Shroff, music composer duo Salim-Suleiman, cricketer Rahul Dravid, politicians Kapil Sibal and Ambika Soni and Sri Lankan cricket team.

An e-mail from a 1 GOAL official to After Hrs reads, “1 GOAL is a campaign seizing the power of football to ensure that education for all is a lasting impact of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. 1 GOAL is bringing together footballers, fans, charities, corporations and individuals to lobby and achieve our ambitious aim of education for everyone.”

In 2000, governments from 164 countries came together to create the Education For All goals. Apart from this, 189 governments created the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Two of the eight goals involve ending poverty through education. Statistics state that over 72 million children will still be without education in 2015.

The official added, “1 GOAL is run by the Global Campaign for Education to mobilise support to hold world leaders to these promises for 2015.The campaign has captured unprecedented support and political will across the world. 1 GOAL is supported by the football world and its governing body, FIFA. 1 GOAL supporters and ambassadors include a multitude of global football stars, celebrities and world leaders, all working to achieve the shared vision of education for all.”
