Mumbai: He's the daredevil khiladi, jumping off planes, ramming opponents with flying fists to save the damsel in distress but Akshay Kumar is the first to admit that when it comes to sheer mental strength, it's Twinkle who carries the day.

Family affair: Dimple Kapadia, Akshay Kumar, Twinkle and Aarav

"I tell you Twinkle has a much calmer and stronger mind than me when it comes to tackling difficult situations. Though I'm always looking for excitement and an adrenaline rush, especially in the kind of stunts I do, she provides the support and stability in my life that allows me to do it. She may be in the background, but she's the biggest factor in keeping my son, my home and me safe and grounded," Akshay told DNA

What the khiladi found the most touching was the selflessness Twinkle showed when it came to choosing between films and family. "It's very difficult to leave the industry once you've gotten into it because the fame is addictive. But my wife had both the courage and the strength of mind to put it all behind her as soon as she got married.

She even ventured into an entirely different profession -- interior designing -- that has nothing to do with the glamour world. I don't know of many people who've done it. She put her energy into her new career but never let it override her first priority, our home. When it comes to mental resilience, which I've seen in Twinkle, my own mother and even my mother-in-law (Dimple Kapadia), women are far ahead of men," notes Akshay, on the sidelines of Khatron Ke Khiladi, in which he's surrounded by a bevy of beauties.

While he's done some of the most enthralling stunts in Bollywood, Akshay says he's deliberately toned down the risks he takes, particularly after the birth of his son Aarav.

"Aarav's birth has changed me a lot. I've become much softer in my outlook and much more cautious in my approach. I avoid unnecessary risks because I realise I have a son to look after and a family to go back to. I remember jumping off a plane and was supposed to land on a hot air balloon and then slide to the ground. I'd have been dead if I had missed the landing but now I cannot even think of doing such deadly stunts.

But yes, I love the rush they give. Many times I have to remind myself to take it easy because I don't want to cause Twinkle and Aarav any pain by doing something crazy," he signs off.
