Congress staged a protest on Wednesday outside Rishi Kapoor's residence in Mumbai.
Rishi Kapoor kicked off a controversy on Tuesday after he made a series of tweets slamming the Congress for naming national assets after Gandhi family during their rule. The actor said the names of the prominent places should be changed after those who worked for the welfare of the country.
Supporting Rishi Kapoor's thoughts, is another Bollywood veteran Anupam Kher. Speaking to Times Now, Kher said that he is happy somebody said it. "At least somebody as senior as Rishi Kapoor ji thought about it. I am sure a lot of people think lot of think. But putting it on social website needs a lot of courage. It needs not only courage but genuine thought. I think its very important. I think Rishi Kapoor's statements should be taken very seriously..." said Kher.
Congress protests outside Rishi Kapoor's residence
Meanwhile, Congress workers on Wednesday staged a protest outside Kapoor's house in suburban Bandra in Mumbai and also pelted stones and shouted slogans against the actor to protest his tweets against the Gandhi family.
Subhash Shukla, secretary Mumbai Congress said, "Who is Rishi kapoor? Gandhi family has served this country, what has Rishi Kapoor done so far for country. He should stick to Bollywood and not interfere in politics. We give him 24 hour ultimatum to apologise otherwise we will protest in Shiv Sena style."
The NCP too took strong objection to Kapoor's tweets on naming major assets after the Gandhi family.
"...He seems to have forgotten his legendary father Raj Kapoor's association with former PM Indira Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi, Indira and Rajiv Gandhi have laid down their lives for the nation so there is nothing wrong is naming assets after them," NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik told reporters.
"The Kapoor brothers have amassed large fortune over the years and if Rishi Kapoor wants an asset in his father's name, the family should spend some money for the welfare of people," he added.
