The year 2018 has found its equivalent of the great 'Black-and-Blue vs Gold-and-White' dress debate.

A few days ago, a Reddit user posted a short clip of a robot reading the word. She asked a simple question: What do you hear?

The clip asked the listener to pick between two words -- Yanny or Laurel -- based on what they hear.

After 3 days, the debate has taken over social media with people picking up Team Yanny or Team Laurel.

As the arguments were raging over social media, scientists were trying to figure out how can some people are hearing Laurel and some are hearing a completely different sounding word Yanny.

According to a CNET report, scientists and experts agree that the recording of the word is terrible, to begin with. They also said that it could be possible that the headphones used by listeners maybe at fault. Some argued that different shapes of ears focus on sounds in a different way. Therefore some people are focusing on high-pitched Yanny and others are concentrating on the bass sound of Laurel.

But the debate is still ongoing as more and more people are joining with their opinions. Celebs like Ellen DeGeneres, Chrissy Teigen and others too shared what they heard.

Legendary writer Stephen King just can't figure out what he is hearing.

Then there are opinions that are just making fun of the whole thing
