bhau: that is how Day One of the much-awaited Worli Festival can be summarised. As the stands filled up, the tempo inflated with performances by Udaan and Usha Uthup, with a stunning backdrop of the sun setting on Mumbai. Worli resident Usha Uthup swelled with pride as she lured crowds in with powerful interpretations of Hari Om Hari and Kolaveri Di. The pulse however, only reached its paroxysm as the carpets rolled out for the bhai of goodness himself, the face of Jai Ho, Salman Khan. Stepping onto the promenade with Sohail Khan, musical duo Sajid-Wajid and Daisy Shah, audiences cheered on as Salman shook hands with Sachin Ahir, known as bhau by Worli residents. The Being Human spearhead began by inaugurating a buggy in the name of Shree Sankalp Pratisthan, a non-profit organisation put together by Maharashtra Minister of State of Housing, Sachin Ahir and his wife, Sangeeta. Salman made it a point to highlight the initiative taken upon by Sachin and Sangeeta in order to better the lives of Worli residents and of Mumbaikars as a whole through Shree Sankalp Pratisthan, the official organiser of the Worli Festival.
As Salman Khan stepped onto the stage with his Jai Ho posse, Worli went into a state of frenzy as Bollywood’s Robin Hood danced away to the beats of his movie. Daboo Malik’s sons, Amal and Armaan Malik, captured audiences’ hearts with the song they composed and sang titled ‘Love you till the end’, a composition that has already hit a chord with Bollywood lovers. In fact, Jai Ho has already resonated with movie-goers as the superman rips off his shirt throughout the reel, saving the day and creating chains of good deeds or rather, Being Human meets the Incredible Hulk, as we’d like to call it.
The first day of the Worli Festival went on to swoon residents with upbeat music and musical contests throughout the night and left them smacking their lips with food stalls of all sorts lined up on the promenade.
