Years have gone by, but we have not forgotten kavitas Roshesh recited or our ideal Hindi teacher Pankaj Kapoor. On the occasion of World TV day, here's a look back at some of our most cherished sitcoms that managed to make a place in the heart of every Indian.

These are 5 of the most popular Indian sitcoms we want back on Indian TV screens-

Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai

The show drew out what could be classified as 'typically middle class' behaviour. Each and every character in the show impressed us with their amazing comic timing and made us laugh to our heart's content. The show drew to an end in 2006. Fans have long been demanding that the Sarabhais make a comeback. Sarabhai team, you listening?

Hum Paanch

In the early days of Balaji Telefilms, Ekta Kapoor did manage to give us shows apart from the ubiquitous saas-bahu serials. Portraying the life of a family with five daughters, each with their own eccentric qualities, Hum Paanch was a great success thanks to its exceptional writing and Ashok Saraf's comic timing. Not to forget, the show even taught us how strong bonds are formed within a family. If only the characters could be back!

Office-Office

What happens when Pankaj Kapoor enters an office set-up? Ask the team of Office-Office whose every episode showcased a different office and the difficulty a common man faced in trying to get his work done. The show was the epitome of dark humour and sarcasm in the history of Indian sitcoms. So the only question the fans of this show are asking is- Arre Sharma ji, ye show jara wapis toh laiye?

Dekh Bhai Dekh

No show could weave a humorous story around a joint family like this one did! The Diwan family became members of our own family. Each character spoke volumes and added an authentic touch to the show with their acting skills. It even gave India one of its biggest comic stars- Shekhar Suman. Though fans have been revisiting the old episodes of this show online, as connoisseurs, we demand a comeback.

Shrimaan Shrimati

With Jatin Kanakia, Archana Puran Singh and Reema Lagu among its cast, this popular sitcom was a melange of humorous talent. This is why, even with 143 episodes, it gets an IMDb rating of 8.8/10. The twisted plot and the amazing characterisation of every protagonist on the show kept the audiences glued to it. There have been attempts to remake this show again, however, none of them have been able to match the elegance of this show.
