Singer-songwriter and rapper Wiz Khalifa will have his fans ‘rapped’ around his little finger as he takes stage at the TimeOut 72 festival in Vagator, Goa, on December 28. When asked about what fans can expect from his setlist, he tells us that he plans to keep things spontaneous. “Every show is about the people. So I will know once I’m there what I think the fans want to see from me. And then bring it!” says the See You Again hitmaker, adding that he is also excited to check out what’s going on with the India Rap scene.

UPCOMING ALBUM

Khalifa took to Instagram to announce that his upcoming album is done and he would be dropping new music soon. The album, which comes after his latest mixtape titled Laugh Now, Fly Later, has been referred to (including by the singer himself on his social media) as Rolling Papers 2, after the 2011 release by the same name. However, Khalifa says, “The title isn’t final,” and reveals that the album is a representation of his growth as a person. “The core fans will for sure connect to the music but I think the lyrics and topics have really changed as I’ve grown and experienced new things in my career and personally — like being a father,” he says, describing the album.

WORK REFLECTS LIFE

In his 12-year-long career so far, Khalifa’s impressive discography includes five studio albums, one EP and soundtrack album each, 14 odd mixtapes, 16 promotional singles, and scores of music videos. Every work, Khalifa says, is a reflection of where he was as a person and an artiste at the time. “It is hard to choose one that reflects me the most because they all captured a time in my life,” he says when asked to name the work that represents his life the most.

GAINING ‘WIZ’DOM

Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, the hip hop hotshot’s professional first name Wiz stands for wisdom and is shortened from wizard, keeping in mind his artistry even as a young musician. He says that the wisest advice he has got for his life and career is to never give up on himself. “And to not give a f**k about what people say as long as you are true to yourself,” he adds.
