In about ten days from now, Priyanka Chopra will have her hugely ambitious and challenging project 'Mary Kom' reach the audiences worldwide. A poignant biopic, a first on the life of a woman athlete, Priyanka Chopra's look and the film's montages have already evoked a huge buzz among the public.
But the question that arises is: Will Priyanka Chopra's 'Mary Kom' do what 'Million Dollar Baby' did for Hilary Swank? It probably might. Priyanka is definitely one of the most astounding actresses who definitely has been able to pull off some really great films on her shoulders. Be it a 'Fashion' or a 'Barfi!', Priyanka's career graph is laced with few films that somehow patronize her as a terrific artist. But off late, Priyanka's rash career choices have been too much of a let down. While most people expected PeeCee to do something bombastic after her terrific Barfi! act, she went on to do 'Zanjeer 2.0' which bombed at the box office.
With some racy and sensuous item numbers up her sleeve, and playing an arm candy in Yash Raj Films' 'Gunday' not helping, Priyanka definitely seemed to have come back on track. A film that has definitely pumped the fervour all in, 'Mary Kom' looks like a winner already. And being based on the life of a boxer, comparisons are bound to happen between the Piggy Chops starrer and Hilary Swank's 'Million Dollar Baby'. The Hollywood film still stands as one of the most iconic films made on boxing. Revolving around the life of an underdog boxer, played by Hilary Swank, who with the help of her boxer trainer goes on to achieve all that she desired, 'Million Dollar Baby' struck the right chords.
The film went on to win several Academy Awards and Hilary Swank soon became the go-to actress. 'Mary Kom' too which boasts of a spectacular performance from Priyanka, given the challenges the actress had to undergo for the film, seems to bring Priyanka right back on track.
What we see from the trailer gives us a hint of what to expect from the film and Priyanka's fiery attitude coupled with Mary's valiant story of her battles and struggles forces us to believe that 'Mary Kom' might just turn out to be Priyanka's breakthrough performance of sorts. As of now, we just want to say: Don't let us down, PC!
