Why Rajinikanth canned Cannes

Rajinikanth was all set to leave for Cannes when he saw the trailer of Kochadaiyaan which was to showcase there. One look at the end-product, and Rajini decided to can the travel plans. Informs a source, “Rajini sir didn’t like the trailer that was prepared. He told the team to re-do the entire footage keeping in mind this was his release after three years. But it was too late.”

Rubbishing reports that Rajinikanth was unable to travel to Cannes with the trailer of the eagerly-awaite due to frail health, the film’s co-producer Murli Manohar says, “We don’t know who is spreading these rumours about Rajiniji’s health. He recovered fully from his illness a year ago. Now he is as healthy as you or me. Attempts to portray him as unhealthy areto bring down Rajiniji’s immense equity.”

Murli explains “Director Aishwarya Dhanush (Rajini’s daughter) felt the trailer could be much slicker and better. So rather than do a rush job we decided to cancel the Cannes launch of the trailer.”

Dr Murli has no regrets about the missed opportunity. “There will be several other opportunities to launch our trailer in the coming months. It will be ready in about 10 days. The film requires tremendous labour and skills to get the special effects in place. Rajiniji’s fans know what he is capable of. They can’t be happy with anything but the best.”
