Director Bryan Singer and producer Simon Kinberg say it recasting "Wolverine" in the future seemed to be kind of impossible.

Actor Hugh Jackman, who has been playing the clawed mutant since 1999, expressed that he won't be back to reprise his role as Wolverine after The Wolverine 3 and X-Men Apocalypse.

The duo said that they couldn't imagine that the iconic character would be played by someone other than Jackman, 47, reported Digital Spy.

"I do think you would want to figure out how to tell more Wolverine stories. So either we would try to entice Hugh to come back and eat more chicken and work out for a few months, or we would have to figure out a creative way to move forward. Honestly, I can't imagine anybody else playing the part, and there's not too many characters I can say that for," Kinberg said.

Wolverine 3 will be directed by James Mangold, with Lauren Shuler Donner tapped as producer.

Months ago, Jackman had put up this photo on Instagram captioned, "WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME. HJ"

Jackman had this to say about finding the next actor to fill his shoes, "I think Tom Hardy would be a great Wolverine. He is younger than me for sure... However, I haven't really given it a lot of thought I'm always like, 'I don't want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me,' you know? I've still got one more (film) to do. I'm sure they're already talking about it, and there's some actor (they've told) 'shh, keep it quiet but we want you next.'" he said.

Jackman made his debut as Wolverine in 2000's X-Men and is arguably the franchise's biggest star. He has played the character six times thus far, most recently in X-Men: Days of Future Past alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.

X-Men: Apocalypse and Wolverine 3 are slated for May 2016 and March 2017 release respectively.
