Having a political background is often seen as being born with a silver spoon in the country. But is that so really?

At the trailer launch of Riteish Deshmukh’s upcoming flick Banjo, he was asked how difficult it was for him to play an earthy character despite being born with a “silver spoon”. To this, Riteish immediately intervened saying “Says who (That I was born with a silver spoon)? Aapne mere ghar ke chammach kab dekhe (When did you see the spoons of my house)?”

Needless to say, Riteish’s quick witted reply left the audience in splits of laughter.

On a serious note, he answered the question explaining that people think he’s done a lot of things because of some “silver spoon” which is actually not the case. So here it is, in the words of Riteish, “Meri paidaish Latoor ki hai. Maine bohot kuch kiya hai jo apko lagta hai ‘silver spoon’ ka kuch hai. Main haath se khaata tha ghar pe. Kabhi chammach- wammach maine liye nahi. Lekin, meri paidaish aur upbringing is of a middle class house."

So what kind of homework did he have to do for the role of a banjo player in the movie? Riteish explained, "Mere kaafi saare dost thhe jo banjo bajate thhe...So I think understanding them (banjo players) or knowing them, was not the issue. But character ko lekar, us perspective se dekhna yes, we did a lot of homework. In fact Ravi (Jadhav) has shot lot of videos, interviewed a lot of banjo players and he used to send them to me, told me their style. So we tried to work hard on it without the 'silver spoon'.”

Produced by Krishika Lulla, Banjo has Nargis Fakhri playing Riteish's leading lady and it also stars popular dancer from Dance India Dance and ABCD fame Dharmesh Yelande. The movie is slated to hit theatres on September 23.
