It was a year of comebacks. From Bhagyashree, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Gauri Pradhan to Ssharad Malhotra, many actors who were missing from TV for a long time returned to their roots, so to say. A low-down

Renuka Shahane: She ruled the TV scenario with serials like Imtihaan, Sailaab and Kora Kagaz before taking a sabbatical from TV to direct films. The actress did a few Marathi reality shows and was seen in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4. Renuka returned to fiction show with Rajshri's Mere Rang Mein Rangnewali to do a cameo as a lawyer. The reason she made time for the serial was the production house. She had starred in their blockbuster Hum Aapke Hai Koun.

Bhagyashree: The Maine Pyar Kiya actress had started her acting career with TV back in the late eighties with the serial Kachchi Dhoop. She was also part of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3. She's made a comeback with Laut Aao Trisha based on the Spanish telenovella Donde Esta Elisa. She plays the mother of a missing college girl. The search for her changes the entire dynamics in the family and relationships are not what they seem to be. The serial had a good start but its slot has been changed so many times, that viewers have lost track.

Kay Kay Menon: The talented actor has done telefilms like Pradhan Mantri and Last Train to Mahakali in the nineties before he transitioned to films. A regular in Anurag Kashyap films, he played a corrupt cop in Amitabh Bachchan's debut fiction show Yudh. The serial failed to garner good ratings despite the presence of some stalwart actors.

Achint Kaur: After Jhansi Ki Rani, the TV actress took a break from TV to do plays and films. She won accolades for her performance in 2 States. Currently the actress is seen as a rich saas who doesn't like her son-in-law in Jamai Rajai. Loosely based on the Anil Kapoor-Madhur Dixit starrer by the same name, Achint's character in the on the lines of Hema Malini's in the film. Produced by Akshay Kumar, the serial is a slot leader.

Sandhya Mridul: Best remembered for her sensitive role in Koshish - Ek Asha, Sandhya started her acting career on TV with Banegi Apni Baat. She has several serials to her credit, and films like Saathiya and Page 3. Last seen on TV in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2, the actress who stayed away from fiction shows has made a comeback with Private Investigator, in which she plays a mother to a teenage boy.

Raj Babbar: Way back in the late eighties, Raj Babbar played the pivotal role of King Bharat in BR Chopra's Mahabharat. Now, after three decades, the veteran actor has returned to TV with the finite series Pukar - Call For A Hero as the father of three sons, one of them being played by Ranvijay Singh.

Sumeet Sachdev: Best known as Gomzi of Kyunki Saas Bhis Kabhi Bahu Thi, Sumeet was a regular in Ekta Kapoor's serials like Kya Hadsa Kya Haqueeqat, Karam Apna Apna and Bandini. After the 2010 serial Bandini, Sumeet vanished from the scene. He scripted and made a short film before he returned to acting with an episode of Yeh Hai Aashiqui and is now a part of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein as Ishita's (Divyanka Tripathi) old friend. His track was introduced to create spike in the serial.

Rajeshwari Sachdev: A Shyam Benegal favourite, she appeared in most of his movies and serials. Rajeshwari was also known for her title role in Margarita. Besides, she has done cameos in several serials including Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Caravan, Meet Mile Na Rabba etc. She and her husband Varun Badola had almost reached the finale of the first season of Nach Baliye 2. The talented actress took a break from TV after marriage and motherhood, though she did a couple of regional films. The actress is back after seven years on TV as the bold and beautiful Lavanya who has an extra-marital affair in Laut Aao Trisha.

Gauri Pradhan: She and Hiten Tejwani made a hit jodi in their first serial Kutumb. Gauri then became popular for her role as Nandini in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. After doing serials like Special Squad and Left Right Left, Gauri who married Hiten, took a break from acting when she gave birth to twins. Her last serial was Kumkum - Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan in which she did a cameo. The actress is back with Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi in which she plays the mother of a grown-up girl.

Sai Deodhar: Best remembered as the pilot of Saara Akash, Sai did serials like Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Baat Hamari Pakki Hai before she took a break from acting in 2010. Married to fellow actor Shakti Anand, Sai preferred to stay away from the arclights to take care of her daughter. Now that she's three years old, Sai is back with Udaan where she plays mother to a five-year-old girl. The serial about bonded labour has struck a chord with the viewers.

Ssharad Malhotra: He rose to fame as the illiterate Sagar in Banoo Main Teri...Dulhan. That was in 2009. After the hit show, Ssharad quit TV to pursue a career in films. His debut film From Sydney With Love sank without a trace. After waiting it out for several years, the actor is finally back where he started from. The actor is currently seen playing the title role in Maharana Pratap for which he transformed himself completely.
