So what if actor Ranvir Shorey hasn’t had a film release in almost two years, his wit remains intact. “I had started feeling awkward about being called an actor,” he confesses, unabashedly, adding, “Especially during moments when people asked what films I’m working on or when is my next release or mentioned a particular role they liked me in.”

But the draught period is soon to get over with two back-to-back releases —Rakesh Mehta’s Life Ki Toh Lag Gai and Rajat Kapoor’s long awaited, Fatso.

“Both the films are very different from each other —Fatso is a sweet film on friendship, relationships, love and identity. Very typical of a Rajat film, it’s pretty layered in nature. The story explores varied human values,” he informs. Of course, shooting for Fatso has been challenging enough for Ranvir. “I had to gain almost 15kgs since we couldn’t afford prosthetics. I did wear a fat suit for the body but the face, too, needed to look proportionate and till date, I’ve been trying to get rid of the those extra pounds. In fact, I’ve even got high blood pressure due to the weight I put on suddenly,” he quips.

On the other hand, Life Ki Toh Lag Gai is a dark comic thriller. “The story deals with four central characters and the happenings in their lives, obstacles they need to overcome,” states Ranvir. It goes without question that the actor is looking forward to April 27 and May 4 (the release dates of both the films). “Acting in a film is more of an emotional journey for me — a journey that should end with the audience reacting to the film. But these days, too many factors have started ruling even the release of a film,” he says, adding, “In the midst of the star system that rules the industry, it’s tough for a film by a relatively unknown person like me to make itself saleable.”

And with films like Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger and On The Ramp with actor Urvashi Sharma in his pocket, he is optimistic. “So what if the star system won’t help non-stars to make much of a head way, smaller films with little resources starring actors like me will continue being made,” he signs off.
